Addiction is usually referred to when a behaviour is out of control. Often times it starts in moderation then it will escalate to a point where it becomes difficult to stop. You could be continuing to do the behaviour despite the negative consequences. Addiction can include alcohol, drugs, food, shopping, pornography and sex. We see addiction as a coping strategy that can be effective in the short term, but not so effective in the long-term. Most of us will experience some type of addiction or know someone who has experienced addiction.
